Aareon and ista cooperate throughout Europe for greater energy efficiency

The international energy service provider, ista, and Aareon are now extending their successful long-standing cooperation in Germany throughout Europe.

Mainz/Essen, 22 September, 2015 – The aim of the cooperation is to offer integrated and secure solutions for greater transparency of consumption, efficient billing as well as innovative services in the digital building in France, Sweden and Norway.

The extended strategic cooperation between ista and Aareon is not just driven by increasing digitalisation in the real estate industry but in particular by the implementation of the European Energy Efficiency Directive (EED). Under this directive, in the coming years the member states of the European Union must establish solutions and mechanisms for sustainable energy-saving. This includes the individual recording and billing of energy and water consumption in multi-family buildings to enable users to actively save energy as a result of this transparency. According to surveys by the European Commission, 15 to 25% of energy costs can be saved every year just by this individual cost and consumption transparency in multi-family buildings.

In France, the national assembly therefore recently passed a comprehensive law on the energy transition which also prescribes a submetering obligation. As a result, Aareon France und ista are now immediately offering integrated solutions to the real estate industry so that it can fulfil this obligation securely, quickly and in an uncomplicated manner. Aareon's software solutions in combination with ista's energy management systems permit property owners and property managers, particularly in the social housing sector, to record and process the relevant consumption data fully automatically and prepare individual monthly bills on this basis. This offers all users maximum data protection and quality. Other innovative services, for example monitoring temperature profiles, detecting water damage or providing smoke alarm devices also help to save resources and costs and contribute to the security of residents in multi-family buildings.

In Sweden and Norway, ista is cooperating with Incit, the local subsidiary of Aareon. Here, too, the companies are offering the real estate industry in the private, public and commercial sectors integrated solutions for the fully automated digital exchange of consumption and billing data. Property owners can therefore offer their users sub-annual, individual bills for heating energy and water. Moreover, users in multi-family buildings can continuously view their individual consumption using web-based solutions and therefore appropriately modify their energy consumption behaviour independently. Other integrated services, for example the measurement of moisture or identification of unusual consumption behaviour, also offer the tenant greater security and convenience.

"Thanks to our international reach, we can support the real estate industry throughout Europe in exploiting the opportunities of digitalisation," says Dr Manfred Alflen, CEO of Aareon. "Our vision of a networked digital ecosystem – Aareon Smart World – is ideal for the integration of partners and their solutions. By cooperating with ista, we are making a contribution towards improving our customers' efficiency and protecting the climate."

"Thanks to our cooperation with Aareon, we can offer our customers all-round digital solutions for the smart building, which, at the same time, are secure and easy to use," says Walter Schmidt, CEO von ista International. "This shows once again what added value can be easily achieved through the digitalisation of products and services for our customers of today and tomorrow."

About ista

ista is one of the leading companies in improving energy efficiency in the building sector. With our products and services, we help to sustainably save energy, CO2 and costs. ista has specialised in so-called submetering, in other words the individual metering, billing and transparent visualisation of consumption data for multi-family buildings and commercial properties. As a basis for this, we use a portfolio of ultramodern hardware components for energy data management. It includes radio-based heat cost allocators, water meters, heat meters as well as the relevant installation systems. The company employs more than 4,700 people in 25 countries worldwide and helps roughly twelve million units (apartments and commercial properties) to save important resources. Moreover, ista makes a major contribution towards tenant safety with radio-based smoke alarm devices and drinking water analyses. The ista Group recorded sales of EUR 781.2 million in 2014.
